Thriftanista Style File: Yellow shirt, grey jeans, floral flats

Hello Spring! Well not quite. It's a bit of a dreary day today so I added a bit of sunshine to my day with a yellow shirt and floral patterned shoes.  The jacket and scarf are so necessary today plus another jacket, socks, and rain boots! I had to change it up a bit before venturing outside. It was chilly.

Earrings  - Eclectic Creations by Mingz
Scarf - bought in Kenya
Black jacket - Live a Little (thrifted)
Yellow shirt - Division II (thrifted)
Grey jeans - Chicos Platinum (thrifted)
Floral flats - Dots
Has Spring sprung in your part of town? Do you wear your sunshine?

In unrelated news, I have brand new shoes for sale in my eBay store. Check it out.

Thriftanista Style File: Hot pink blouse and leather vest

On Tuesday, I went on a momcation with Lady Terror. I lucked up on screening passes to see The Five Year Engagement. Afterwards, we went to the super adorable Beauty Bar to partake of the hosted bar while perched on a barstool dancing the night away.

I love how djs play all the songs I enjoy at the beginning of a set. A great mix of old school r&b, hip-hop and reggae and then they move to the new music that I no longer understand. I can have my party and be home by midnight.

My party girl mama self likes her beauty sleep.

What I Wore

This outfit doesn't thrill me. It's doing a lot and not in a good way. Vest closed over blouse? No bueno. All of the black against the pink weren't working for me either. My shoes looked blah. I didn't have time to change though. I was running late to catch the free movie. Priorities.

Since I'm trashing this outfit, I may as well discuss the pant and toe issue again. I look in the mirror, no toe. When I look at the picture, I see toe. These are knit pants and not leggings. There's a zipper and a button. It's a thick knit too. If I wear a longer top to cover the crotch area, it adds a lot of bulk in places I don't want to see bulk. What to do? Should I burn these pants?

For modesty's sake, I did lots of photo editing to erase the toe!
Streaking baby coming through!
V's normal position whenever I do anything that doesn't involve her.
Hot pink sheer blouse - Ann Chabrol (thrifted)
Black leather vest - unknown (thrifted)
Black pants - Nine West
Ankle boots - Born
When was your last momcation? Where and what did you do?
Do you have knit pants? What do you wear them with?

Thriftanista Style File: Floral pants

I had a very busy weekend with Thriftanista Social Club. On Saturday we attended the Modern Vintage Chicago's Spring Clothing and Jewelry Explosion. Three floors of vintage. Every stall had unique pieces. There was a ton of merchandise to see including clothing, jewelry, fabric, magazines, sunglasses, refashioned vintage, furniture, and so much more! Wow.

and this is What I Wore.

The pants are thrifted. I'm loving the floral pants that are trending right now so I thought I would give a try. The pants I found are great. High waist.  No waistband. Ankle length and tapered.  Really comfortable to wear except with tights. Oye bad move on my part. I was so uncomfortable with them sticking to me all day. Other than that, I love them and I think they will work well in my summer wardrobe out at the playground. I shall buy more.

Oversized sweater - Kenar
Floral tapered pants - Kate Hill (thrifted)
Grey oxfords - Style & Co.
This is what I coveted.
I was making a weird face so I lopped off my head in this one.
How gorgeous is this jacket? It was perfect for me and I did not buy it. It was on the sale rack at the first stall I visited. $10. It's a tangerine suede peplum jacket from the 70s. Seriously, doesn't that just scream me? I wish I had a picture of the back too. It's a gorgeous piece. I was hesitant about purchasing because it would have to be cleaned and the cost would be high and I knew it would go into my huge stack of dry cleaning pile. In the end, I left it behind and now all I have is this picture to look back on and reminisce. <-- dramatics

I didn't buy anything on Saturday but I made up for it on Sunday! The thriftanistas visited the 50% off sale at Village Discount Outlet. Major haul! I bought 16 items for just under $30. Almost everything I picked up worked well for me. I was having a very good shop day. I think all of us left with a pretty big bag or 3.

These pics don't do my finds justice. I can't wait to style up my new old spring wardrobe.

The tops
Black camp shirt (brand new w tags), silk leopard print blouse, lime green button up

More tops
Yellow button up, hot pink blouse, striped tunic shirt

I have a history with the jacket on the right. About 3 weeks ago I saw it in the store. with a $7 price tag. Yesterday it was still there marked down to $6 and 50% off. Now the best part. My cashier didn't ring it up along with 4 other items! I was gabbing during my entire checkout. I didn't notice until I got home.
Vintage sparkly top and jacket

The dresses
Indian tunics

Neon yellow dress

A lightweight cardi
Striped jersey knit from People Like Frank

A bottom
Floral shorts (can I get a YAY for elastic waist!)

For sale
Vintage vanity fair slip, avon gown, beeline lounging tunic

Did you thrift? What did you get?
Floral pants? Yay or Nay?

Thriftanista Style File: Tulle dress, chevron coat, Weitzman pumps

Last night I attended Shecky's Girls Night Out so I wasn't able to post. This was my first time going. I had an ok time. I went solo. If I go again, I'll have to bring friends, flats, water, a snack and come earlier so I can partake of the complimentary beauty services.

What I Wore

I like this dress a lot. I'm sure you already know why but I'll tell you anyway. It's PURPLE. It's washable. It's cotton and comfy. It's thrifted. It's from Tulle too. I have a couple of dresses from them. The sales are very budget friendly.

I also pulled out my favorite thrift store find -- the chevron jacket and the Stuart Weitzman pumps. I still don't know if I like them or not. I think it's the bow that's throwing me off. I like bows but not sure this bow belongs on this shoe. It's syrupy. Does that make any sense to you?

I'm also "posed up" with my new old vintage Fendi. Every time I glance at it, I start singing LL Cool J's Around the Way Girl in my head. Love the bag but it's a bit impractical for my lifestyle (i.e. mom sack) right now so I have it in my Etsy shop with a price tag that would make it easier for me to part with.

What do you hold on to even though you know it's going to get dusty in your closet?
Have you been to a Shecky's event? What did you think?

What I Bought

I never buy things at shopping events that I have to pay to enter. I saw these and fell in love. Aren't they  cute? I couldn't decide which one to get so I got both. You can check out other pieces from the collection at Jay Clay Jewelry.

What Was in the Goodie Bag

I used the Miss Jessie's on V's hair today and I love the way it smells. Everything else is still in the bag. I'm really excited about the wine stopper though. You can store wine horizontally with this cap!  I also want to try the press on nails. I wonder if they have improved since my tween days. I was most surprised by the astroglide in the bag. Huhh! My inner prude gasps when she saw it and clutched at her pearls that aren't really there. O dear! That's all I'm going to say about that. Happy Friday!

My first clothing swap

Last weekend I went to Community Closet's Clothing Swap. The creator (Maja) is a member of the Thriftanista Social Club and invited us all to come out. This was my first time swapping and it was great. There were racks of clothing, clothes in cubby holes, accessories spread out on a table, and shoes! All for the picking as long as you brought something to swap. I must do this again.

Rolling around in all the clothes.
Isn't that what you do when you see a big pile of clothes?
I came in with these 2 bags.

I left with these.
Vintage dress
jeans
more jeans
purple silk jacket
basic tank - brand new with tags
super soft snakeskin turtleneck
plaid pastel shirt
Kensie Girl dress
Forever 21 dress and bangles
This is me on the day after the swap rocking one of my new to me dress.
Pensive reflection on what is going on with my chest area.
Ever do any clothing swaps? Any thrifting over the weekend?

Thriftanista Style File: RACHEL Rachel Roy dress

I had a post anniversary date this week. Date #3 since V. Woohoo! We went to see Fela and it was amazing. I'm so glad we were able to go. Having seen it, I now want to:

1. Read Fela's book.
2. Visit the Shrine.
3. Learn to move my "clock" like these ladies.
4. Start a revolution -- Thrifters Unite!

What I Wore

I did a Salvation Army drive by over the weekend. It was on my way to my destination and I just stopped in for 30 minutes or so. I came out with this little dress from RACHEL by Rachel Roy for Macy's. The tag says x-small and I was about to put it down. I remembered my own rule and tried it on anyway. It fits and I love it.

Print dress - Rachel by Rachel Roy (thrifted)
Necklace - handmade in Kenya
Black belt - Yves St. Laurent "supposedly" (thrifted)
Black tights - unknown
Crochet tights - unknown
Grey pumps - Payless

Thriftanista Style File: Electric blue 80s wrap dress

Last week I attended Maven Presents the Diva Series: Fashionistas event with @vintagenut. We ate meat on sticks and had a couple of cocktails. Does a night get any better than that? Well throw in some fabulously dressed divas! It was a wonderful night of fashionista watching. I also got some SEO tips while chatting with a woman next to me who is an internet marketer. I even spotted a few thriftanistas in the house. I decided not to bring my camera though. I've been lugging it around everywhere lately. It's pretty cumbersome especially since it doesn't fit in the tiny clutches I've been carrying.

What I Wore

Finally wore the .69 dress. I love it. The color is so vibrant. It's easy to wear. It does have severe gaposis when I'm seated. Good thing I wore a slip underneath. I even love the humongous shoulder pads. I think it adds to the dress.

SN: Baby stuff is inching in closer and closer on my "back drop". V strolled up with her grocery cart. He mentioned something about an orange and she rushed over to him leaving the cart in my pic. Thanks for the prop, V. It matches perfectly with the Graco playpen.
Electric blue wrap dress - unknown (thrifted)
Black tights - Hue
Grey pumps - Payless
Gigantic shoulder pads? Would you?

Making money thrifting

I'm going through a hustle spurt right now. One of my themes for this year is to make money on my own terms. To that effort, I give you ReGlam Vintage -- my Etsy store! Have you noticed the mini widget at the bottom of the page? It's been there a couple of weeks now. Take a look around. There's 25% off with code "windycitymama". I'm adding items slowly and some of the item specifics are still being included so if you have a question about at item just email me.

My What I Wore is really just me "modeling" for the store. Looks a lot better than my floor shots. I need a mannequin in my life.

WARNING: The pictures are heavily doctored for the blog because I got caught up playing in new picnik g+ creative kit.

My Rosie the Riveter turban is my shower cap all tucked  and turbaned to keep my hair out the pics.

Everything is thrifted except for the fabric scrap do-rag. I believe it was gifted to me.

Love the color on the jacket.
I don't see myself getting much wear out of it though.

I love the cape - like bodice on this one.

Ever try something on that you were going to give away or sale and wonder why because it's  so awesomely cute?
That's me in this dress.
I may have to pull this one out of the store.

This one is for eBay. It's a size too small.
I thought I could rock it but it's MC Too Tight on me.
Are you on Etsy?
